More housing options for McMaster students

With students returning to in-person classes on campus in January, Housing & Conference Services (HCS) has announced two new initiatives to help students find a place to live on or near campus.

For the first time in five years, HCS is expanding the option to live in residence to all upper-year students including graduate students.

“For many students, this January will be the first time they have been on campus in almost two years. We want to give them a chance to reconnect through a great residence experience and give them more opportunities to build relationships with students outside of the classroom,” said Kevin Beatty, director of Housing & Conference Services.

All students including international students travelling to Canada who are interested in living in residence are encouraged to apply now for an early January 2022 move-in. Students wanting to live with a friend in residence are welcome to submit a roommate request. Residence fees will be pro-rated and living in residence requires the purchase of a meal plan.

For students looking off-campus, HCS is working with landlords to provide more housing options on their Mac Off-Campus housing rentals website. For the month of December, landlords can post their available properties for free on offcampus.mcmaster.ca.

“We are hoping that landlords use this as an opportunity to give our students as many housing options as possible,” said Laurie Ham, manager of Conference and Event Services. “Offering these ads at no cost will encourage landlords who don’t usually post with us to share more properties with the McMaster community.”
