New health and safety measures now in place
We’re doing things differently these days. Our new normal includes:
- Increased cleaning in high-traffic areas, like washrooms and common areas
- Daily cleaning of all in-use classrooms
- Limiting the number of people on campus
- Restricting access to shared spaces like washrooms
- Requiring masks in all public indoor campus spaces
- Providing physical distancing guidelines in all lab and classroom spaces
- Making hand sanitizer available at all building and classroom entrances
- Communicating physical distancing and reduced classroom capacities with detailed signs
- Encouraging physical distancing in hallways, stairways and buildings with directional signs
- Requiring COVID-19 Awareness training for all staff and students who need to come to campus
Visit the Human Resources Health & Safety page for more information on everything we’re doing.

Coming to campus? Here's what to do
As of December 7, 2020, every person coming to campus to work, attend classes or use any campus facilities must do an active screening process before arrival.
Click the link to find out what specific steps you need to take.
As well, each person must also:
- Do the online training: The mandatory COVID-19 Awareness training is available in Mosaic. Training must be completed once in advance of coming to campus.
- Wear a mask: Masks are mandatory for all indoor spaces on campus.
- Follow signs and keep physically distanced: Clear, easy to read signage throughout campus signals appropriate physical distancing and room capacities.
- Use the COVID-19 reporting tool: If you or anyone on your team has tested positive for COVID, has symptoms or has come into contact with a confirmed case of COVID, use the tool in Mosaic to help McMaster take appropriate safety actions.
Cases on campus
If an employee or student has been exposed to COVID-19, we have protocols in place both to make sure they’re supported and that the community stays safe.
Find out about confirmed cases on campus here.
If you feel ill or have found out you’ve been exposed, please do not come to campus. You’re also encouraged to seek medical advice.
The COVID-19 reporting protocols for students, faculty and staff can be found here:
COVID-19 awareness training
COVID-19 awareness training, which will help our community understand how to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and minimize risk, is now mandatory for anyone coming to campus, including faculty, staff and students.
You can register for training in the Regulatory Training section of Mosaic.
For more information, click the Learn More button below to email McMaster’s Environmental and Occupational Health Support Services.
Mandatory masks
To keep our community safe, non-medical masks or face coverings must be worn in all indoor public spaces on all McMaster campuses. These can include cloth masks, bandanas, disposable surgical masks and other ways of blocking droplets from your nose and mouth.
Follow the link for complete guidelines and protocols for face coverings and masks.
