Masks or face coverings to be required on campus; David Braley Clinic reopening
This article was updated Aug. 21 with new information on where to get a mask on campus.
Masks/face coverings required on campus
In response to the most recent public health information, the University will require face coverings be worn in all indoor public spaces at all McMaster locations, effective Tuesday, July 14.
• This includes hallways, elevators, lobbies, classrooms, washrooms and other common use areas — any indoor space where physical distancing can be difficult to maintain, in addition to university shuttle buses.
• Exemptions to the new requirement would include those who should not wear a mask for health reasons or for religious considerations.
• Wearing a mask or face covering does not replace the need for physical distancing or all other health and safety measures.
This new measure is in addition to existing workplace health and safety guidelines and practices for COVID-19 already in place requiring personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for the specific nature of work, including research labs and in medical environments.
Because some of McMaster’s buildings are connected to hospital buildings and university employees also work in hospital settings, anyone using those locations must follow the hospital protocols which also require masks.
For those who come to the main campus and do not have a face covering: Effective Monday, Aug. 24, disposable masks will be available at the Campus Store (bookstore) Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
If you require a mask, go to the Campus Store Service Window, located inside the Campus Store entry vestibule, accessible through the exterior entrance on the south side of Gilmour Hall.
